Clawgs V2 Alterations

Only make alterations when you're confident your Clawgs are the correct sizes with properly adjusted straps.

Trim Excess Sole Under Side Claws

There's lots of variation in dogs' side toes'/claws' location with respect to dogs' front toes'/claws' locations from dog to dog and paw to paw.

Therefore, dog Sap extended the sole under side toes/claws out of an abundance of caution. In most situations, side claws touching the sole is better than toe pads touching the ground.

It is normal for one or both side claws to touch the sole rather than the ground when you receive Clawgs.

However, there are huge benefits to trimming the excess sole to fit each dogs' unique paws.

Aside from the obvious improved grip from claw use, cutting the excess sole frees the front straps to hold front toes better, including letting the front edge curve up in front of front pads under front claws, which prevents front toes from sliding through Clawgs' front claws' opening.

Another benefit is that Clawgs stay centered better when the excess sole is trimmed because side claws snag the newly cut edge on both sides, which prevents Clawgs from spinning.

The only potential downside of trimming the excess sole under side claws is that it increases the risk that a toe pad touches the ground rather than the sole. By carefully marking the area to cut that protects both front and side toe pads, the risk is small and the benefits are huge.

How to trim excess sole under side claws:

If your dog's side claws are already touching the ground, you can benefit from cutting a slit straight back beside the front pads, as shown below.

This frees up Clawgs' front edge to curve up in front of front pads (below claws), which reduces the risk of front toes sliding through Clawgs' front claws' opening.

Cutting slits between dogs' front pads and side claws is particularly beneficial for sizes 1-6 because those sizes do not have sliders to hold front toes back.

If your size 1-6 Clawgs' front edge extends beyond front (middle) pads while your dog is standing, feel free to cut a slit between the front pads and side claws without risking return rejection.

If your dogs' front knuckles are for back with respect to their front pads -and- their side claws touch the ground rather than the sole, your dog will also benefit from cutting slits in the sole between front pads and side claws.

Stitch and Trim Clawgs V2's excess Toe Straps

Clawgs V2's excess toe straps can be stitched and trimmed so they look prettier sans floppiness.

After you're confident your Clawgs are the correct sizes with straps properly adjusted, you can stitch the two left toe straps together and the two right toe straps together. This locks in the toe straps' lengths and prevents them from moving through the buckle. Then, cut the excess toe straps near the stitch points and voilà, pretty Clawgs V2 with less excess straps flopping out front.

Please note that stitched and/or trimmed Clawgs cannot be returned.
